The Open Book

The Open Book was exhibited at the Victoria and Albert during ‘Digital Design Weekend 2015’. The Book was a video installation with “live writing” during the process. The concept of the book was for the audience to create a piece of writing from stretch and to free write anything without any pauses or editing.
CONDITIONAL DESIGN (Video 1)

The conditional design workshop looks at the concept of experimenting and playing with triangle based 3D structures as opposed to rectangular based 3D structures.
CONDITIONAL DESIGN (Video 2)

As part of the performance Book Nodes & Edges, the audience had to buy the Conditional Design Workbook to participate. Using the book, the audience influenced the drawings generated on floor.

The idea of the set design was to:
- Remove the cone.
- Make triangles.
- Draw a line to connect this node to the nearest empty node in the grid.
- Connect the node of the just purchased book to as many other nodes as possible, if this will close a triangle.
- The triangle must not include books.
- Fill the triangle with lines pointing towards the just purchased book.
- Never cross a line or a point.

CONDITIONAL DESIGN EXERCISES:
THE PERFECT CIRCLE:

Rule:
Draw a perfect circle which is larger then the previous one. Each person took 60 seconds to draw their circle until it filled up the page. The different colours reflected the time and application of line to draw the 'perfect' circle.
THE BEACH:

Each player had to find the most empty space on the paper and draw a dot in the middle of it. This take had to be completed in 5 minutes.
HATCHING:

Each player had a different colour pen: red, blue, green and black. Each player placed a dot on the sheet at an arbitrary position but not further than 10 cm from each other. The lines had to connect two dots. This created a visually dynamic piece.
FLUXFOLD:

Each player had a different colour pen: red, blue, green and black.
The set of rules was to lift the paper from the table and bring it to any place on corner. Press the paper flat and make a fold and unfold again after while placing a dot. Bringing the corner of the paper to the end, a line was drawn.
This process was repeated until all lines and folds was made. This created interesting shapes and overlapping lines.

Conditional Design - One
The idea of the set Conditional design was to fill up the white space with marks or lines in the space of 6 seconds. The rule was to complete this in 5 minutes .

Conditional Design - Two
Each player draws a curved line that must touch the top of the page and bottom of the page. Each player takes up to 5 seconds each to fill the white space using a curved line. It should last up to 10 minutes.
